GRE Quant: Topics Tested

As already discussed, the Revised GRE has 2 marked sections on Quant, with approximately 20 questions in each section, and the time given is 35 mins per section. Additionally, there may be an Unidentified Unscored Section as well. The topics generally tested in the sections are enlisted below.

Arithmetic 

  1. Integers (Properties, LCM, HCF, Remainder Theorem)
  2. Fractions (Various Concepts and Calculations)
  3. Exponents and Roots (Squares, Cubes and Square Roots, Calculations involving fractions)
  4. Decimals (Concepts and Calculations)
  5. Real Numbers (Number Line and Properties)
  6. Percent (Concept, Computation, Calculation)

Algebra

  1. Operations with Algebraic Expressions (Calculations on the basis of Standard Identities)
  2. Exponents (Rules, Basic Calculations and Application)
  3. Linear Equations with 1 and 2 variables and Quadratic Equation (Concept, Basic Calculations and Application)
  4. Solving Linear Inequalities
  5. Functions (Concept and Application)
  6. Application Based Questions on the basis of the topics above, and concepts like Average, Ratio and Proportion, Ages, Time and Work, Speed – Distance – Time, Profit and Loss, Simple Interest- Compound Interest,
  7. Co-ordinate Geometry (Concepts and Calculations)
  8. Graph Functions (Calculations)

Geometry

  1. Lines and Angles (Concepts, Calculations and Problems)
  2. Triangles, Quadrilaterals and Other Polygons (Concepts, and Calculations and Problems based on Properties, Areas and Perimeter)
  3. Circles (Concepts, and Calculations and Problems based on Properties and Area)
  4. Solid Geometry (Concepts, and Calculations and Problems based on Properties, Areas and Perimeters of Cubes, Cuboids, Cylinders, Spheres, Pyramids and Cones)

Data Analysis

  1. Graphical Methods for Describing Data (Problems on Frequency Distributions, Bar Graphs, Circle Graphs, Histograms, Scatter Plots and Time Plots)
  2. Numerical Methods for Describing Data (Problems on Measures of Central Tendency: Mean – Median – Mode, Measures of Position: Quartiles , and Measures of Dispersion: Range, Interquartile Range, Box Plots, Standard Deviation)
  3. Counting Methods (Problems on Sets and Lists, Multiplication Principle, Factorials, Permutations, Combinations and Probability)
  4. Distributions of Data, Random Variables, and Probability Distributions (Concepts and Problems)
